Mantra, or 'chant, song', is a regular part of traditional Hatha Yoga because the power of sound is important to our health.
Mantras are intentional, focused on a specific goal .. such as peace or healing or happiness. When one intones a mantra a larger sound is created, more than just the individual voice, for mantra's are very much a part of our breath, so our being.
Just as Yoga has specific poses to achieve specific results, so does mantra create intent within the entire body .. through vibration. And like Yoga, mantra too should be a weekly practice, for repetition creates health within the body, steadiness of mind, and peace within the spirit.
One uses their voice in so many ways .. while singing about a bonfire, or lulling a child to sleep, or reading aloud, or humming while walking in the woods. All of these are examples of how we intuitively connect with spirit.
Mantras are inspirational, helping us discover the deep well within ones self, longing to be release.
Have you found your voice? Are you able to clearly express your thoughts and dreams, not just to others, but to yourself? Being able to do this opens us to the great experience of purpose, vision and service.
Om Peace, Shanti, Pax!
